Good Gallery!

Exciting. Expensive. Exceptional.

That is my 3 word definition of what it means to be featured in a Gallery.
It is wonderful and at the same time, you feel vulnerable.
You put your work out there for the world to be your critic.
Not easy- But fun..in fact- So much fun I decided to
accept the invitation- to take that risk.
Please take a drive down 95 south from RI into Connecticut to view my work on July 1, 2009 at the Left Bank Gallery, in Essex. What a beautiful town.. grab a coffee/tea and sit for awhile.
This will be my art's new home for the next 6 months. I will email you all the schedule for my Opening Reception, soon.

VOILA! Gallery in Wickford Rhode Island

As artists, we visit galleries.. all kinds of galleries in many different places.

Personally, if i could rent a room in a gallery I would live there.

My Fine Art Photography, is now hanging in a gallery in Wickford Village, Rhode Island.

The name of the Gallery is Voila! I am very excited about this and would love to

have you visit this gallery owned by Natalie and Brent Thompson.

They have done beautiful and incredible things with the space.

I am proud to be a part of this exciting venture and to see my work displayed among the

other talented and very fine artists. The Wickford Art Festival is on July 9th and 10th...

I am now also going to tell you the same thing. However, I am referring to my NEW Website.
You have to see it.. it is awesome.. and the guy who did it.. is truly amazing and very
reasonable to hire. He is a college student who designs websites to help pay his bills through

Macro

So, I started shooting Macro.. and i really love it.
It is a whole new world for me.. i never knew flowers could be so interesting!
I also started doing some shoots of new pets..i must say Rembrandt lighting is my
favorite indoor style..but i still prefer outdoors using natural light.
I have included one of my pictures of this Golden Retriever.. He is a beauty with a
great disposition and a true lover of the camera!
I will post one of my new fine art flower pics soon.. I am so glad it is spring..so much beauty to be inspired by. I just love it-rain and all.

Have you ever heard the expression,'" A picture is worth a thousand words?"

How many words is your picture worth? The fewer the better.

Why? Because a photograph speaks in a unique way, by using visual dialogue.

Photographs have the power to evoke strong emotions, depending on how you set up the shot, prior to taking the picture.

So before you just "click", first stop and then think..." what am I trying to say"?

THE RULES OF COMPOSITION

Years ago, artists who had been born with an innate sense of design created works that were perceived, by other

skilled artists, as having good composition. Not only that, but their works were very popular with the general public

and art afficionados. Analysis of such works showed patterns and trends in the organization and inter-relationships of lines, shapes, forms and colors that were recognized as contributing to the effectiveness of the works. It was found that others could

employ these patterns as techniques in improving their own works. When they were defined, they became known as

the rules of composition.

Tip # 2 Watch the light

Next to the subject, the most important part of every picture is the light. It affects the appearance of everything you photograph.

On a great-grandmother, bright sunlight from the side can enhance the age of your subject.

But the soft light of a cloudy day can subdue harsh shadows and lines, if that is the look you are going for.

If you are shooting documentary style photos then lines will only add to the character of your given subject.

Don't like the light or shadow on your subject? Use reflectors or move yourself or your subject.

Tip # 1-Photographing People

In most cases, conveying a message is not that difficult. You simply have to think before you click the shutter.

Ask yourself what you want your picture to say. Once you have defined it, you are then able to figure out how best to capture it

on film. Occasionally, you will see an expression before you in a candid shot, you will also have to capture it quickly before it is interrupted.

Try to engage the subject in conversation to create an easy going rapport. If you are photographing children, ask them to tell you what their favorite toys are to play with, or if they have a pet. Developing a trusting relationship with your subject is key to successful portrait photography, especially if someone is uncomfortable in front of the camera.

color.. it has an amazing effect on us doesn't it!

we are in awe of creation when we see color.. it stops us and helps us feel.

winter.. grey, blue, white, brown.. a soothing palette, for some depressing, for others

a time to reflect and be quiet.

I myself enjoy the season, especially when a brilliant cardinal enters my vision or

even a vocal blue jay..

I was looking forward to going into Newport after the holiday season to see what was

happening in town. Before I left the house, I checked out this site and what an array of great things

to do, see and learn about right here in Rhode Island. Hats off to you all for compiling all this for us lazy folks!!

I did end up at the Newport Rhode Island Museum for an hour tour along with a coffee at Starbucks.

I must say Lucia's serves up some great Italian if you're in the mood and the walk along America's Cup and Brick Alley

are a real treat with some of the new galleries that have popped up too. We really do have alot to be thankful for in our

little state, and Newport is such a jewel across the bay.. Thanks again..

today is a fine day.
it is the day when the NMAI (Newport Museum of American Illustration)
hosts the NY Times Arts and Leisure weekend.
what does that mean: the cost is two for one!
so, instead of it costing you 50.00 for you and a friend it's only 25.00
i like that. and if you are a student it's even less to get in.. hoooray!
i also like the new easy pass for the newport bridge.
come summer, we locals wont be waiting in line to go over the bridge-
we will just cruise on through..
i like that too.
so, maybe i'll see you at the normal rockwell's.
enjoy your day, whatever you decide to do.
